Originally from eastern North Carolina, Dr. Thomas completed his undergraduate and dental school training at UNC Chapel Hill, followed by 4 years as a US Navy Dental Officer in Beaufort, S.C. attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After his military service, he completed his specialty training in periodontics at the Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Thomas has been serving eastern North Carolina since 1984 when he established his practice in New Bern, focusing on anterior implants, esthetic periodontal plastic surgery and complex interdisciplinary dentistry.
Dr. Hutchens attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Dentistry and was then awarded positions in the Graduate Periodontology Program and with the Department of Oral Biology, at The Medical College of Georgia (now Augusta University). There he has completed a Master’s Degree in Oral Biology and will graduate with a Certificate in Clinical Periodontics that includes hospital based training in intravenous conscious sedation.
Dr. Hutchens is licensed in both North and South Carolina. His areas of expertise include sedation dentistry, dental implants, gum grafting, bone grafting, esthetic/cosmetic dentistry, and the treatment of periodontal disease.
Dr. Best attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was awarded a BS in Dentistry, a Doctor of Dental Surgery and then completed his periodontal residency in 1981.
Upon his completion of residency, Dr. Best began private practice, first in Kinston, and then Jacksonville, North Carolina, until he sold his practice in 2007. He began working in Wilmington in 2008. For six years, Dr. Best was the contract periodontist for US Navy Second Dental Battalion at Camp Lejeune, NC.
Allison "Alli" Shofe was raised on the beaches here in Wilmington, North Carolina. Alli was introduced to dentistry over 18 years ago and quickly realized she had found her niche. After 8 years as a dental assistant, she challenged herself by returning to school for dental hygiene. Her favorite part of her job is making a difference in someone's life by being a positive influence in their dental health. In her spare time, Alli enjoys spoiling her niece and nephew, as well as being active in both running and triathlon.
